Enterprise Knowledge Representation — Working Definition

Abstract

Enterprise Knowledge Representation (EKR) is proposed as a technology-independent enterprise capability for creating, relating, governing and evolving purposeful representations of selected operational knowledge. This Working Definition V0.1 establishes the initial public definition of EKR and distinguishes a particular EKR, the EKR capability, and the logical EKR Service. It defines the shared EKR representation foundation, Foundation Conformance Profiles and optional Domain Semantic Profiles; clarifies purposeful partiality, plurality, distributed authority, provenance, conformance and fitness; and positions EKR as a governed foundation from which semantic and operational interoperability and composable participation may be progressively established. EKR does not prescribe a universal ontology, platform, enterprise model or implementation technology. Semantic mediation, inference, composition, negotiation, routing, orchestration and execution remain downstream capabilities. The English V0.1 is the canonical text.
