Fintech Market Engagement in Financing Net-Zero Transitions: The Mediating Role of Digital Inclusion
Abstract
This chapter discusses how capital markets (CMs) can be used to distribute the required financial resources to achieve the goals of net-zero emissions and digital inclusion (DI) in the Republic of Africa. It evaluates the ability of such markets to activate the kind of investment that both facilitates the shift in the environment towards sustainability and increases access to digital finance (DF), thus contributing to community growth. It, in particular, explores the primary mechanisms through which the existence of efficient CMs can be utilised to support the green finance (GF) programmes and provide crucial digital infrastructure, among other important ingredients of the sustainable development pathway of Africa. This will involve a discussion of how well green bonds and other international financial instruments will bring capital to renewable energy projects and an assessment of the role played by financial technologies.
