Counterentry: A Reconciling Knowledge Structure

Open access0 citations

Abstract

A specification for a knowledge structure whose distinguishing job is to notice when its own records stop matching reality. Records about running software go stale silently. A record claimed a dashboard required admin access; the permission check returned true for every visitor and always had. Nothing crashed and nothing threw an error, because it was not a failure. It was a function working correctly while the record about it was wrong. It surfaced only when two independent records of the same system were compared and asked whether they agreed. The structure extends Andrej Karpathy's LLM Wiki pattern (April 2026) with five insertions: claims anchored to external evidence, checks triggered by reality moving rather than by a schedule, a governor that makes every rule earn its place in a capped report, decisions that record the premises underneath them so a dead premise invalidates the decision built on it, and a lifecycle designed for periods when nobody is maintaining it. The document states honestly what exists and what does not. What exists is a manual practice and four findings. The scheduler, the precision ledger, premise propagation and the dormancy machinery are specified and not built. Prior art, including work already shipped by others, is accounted for in section 11.
