Impact of green logistics on export performance: an empirical study in Vietnam on the comprehensive and progressive agreement for trans-Pacific partnership nations

Abstract

This research examines the association between green logistics and Vietnam’s export performance with its Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) partners, using an augmented gravity model and panel data from 2010 to 2018 and 2022. Using Feasible Generalized Least Squares, the study found that the logistics performance of both Vietnam and its importing partners is positively correlated with the country’s export values. Furthermore, Vietnam’s domestic Green Logistics Performance (GLP) is positively associated with its export value, whereas the GLP of importing countries is negatively associated with Vietnam’s export performance. These results clarify the dual role of green logistics in international trade, acting as a driver of competitiveness for exporters while functioning as a potential non-tariff barrier for importers, particularly in a developing country such as Vietnam. This study provides critical insights on green logistics for government agencies of Vietnam and CPTPP members as they navigate the transition toward sustainable trade practices.
