Unlocking Potential: Luban Workshop’s Contribution to Building a Better Future for Vocational Education in Africa

Abstract

Abstract In recent years, the Luban Workshop has emerged in China as a key task of internationalizing China’s vocational education and to share teaching resources, teaching models, and professional criteria globally to cultivate talent and train high-end skilled technical personnel. Specifically, this study seeks to analyze and explore the three main pragmatic underpinnings and contributions of Luban Workshops to vocational education in Africa: (1) the developmental progress of Luban Workshops in Africa, and the major fields they offer for cultivating high-end vocational skills, (2) the impacts of Luban Workshops on vocational education in Africa, and (3) the approaches of Luban Workshops to building a better future for young generations in Africa through vocational education. The findings indicate that the Luban Workshop offered a dozen major fields across 15 African countries, a total of 17 Luban Workshops, for cultivating and fostering the skills and knowledge, bridging the gap, and enhancing vocational education training through supporting teaching equipment and materials within the partner countries. Through employing creative teaching strategies and practical skills training, the Luban Workshop seeks to empower young Africans and equip them to meet industry demands in a rapidly changing job market. The contribution of the Luban Workshop in vocational education unlocks the potential of trainees and trainers to meet industry demands. Additionally, it supports Africa’s industrialization goals of Agenda 2063 by focusing on creating a skilled workforce. Furthermore, in this study, the details of the Luban Workshop approaches to building a better future for vocational education in Africa are presented.
