AFS is ONE Society

Abstract

I would like to start by saying how honored I am to be your AFS President. I hope to weave together several themes from my plan of work in this space over the next year, primarily focused on highlighting the American Fisheries Society (AFS) as ONE SOCIETY. I have spent the past 3 years in preparation for my term by communicating to our unit leaders through the monthly Leaderline about the value of their role and how we are all working together AFS. This theme developed through those interactions as well as with members at several Chapter meetings. With the larger societal shift in focus towards the individual, it’s important that we remain committed to helping each other and our community. The American Fisheries Society is ONE Society with many parts that allow us to work at all levels from local to regional to global. The Society has a large role in helping fisheries and aquatic professionals stay connected and continue to advance research, conservation, and management of fisheries and aquatic systems.
