Self Ligating Brackets: Evolution and Design Concepts- Part 2
Abstract
AbstractSelf ligating brackets have undergone significant evolution since their initial introduction, aiming to improve efficiency and biomechanics in orthodontic treatment. Early designs focused on eliminating the need for ligatures, reducing friction and chairside time. Over time, advancements led to the development of active, passive, and interactive systems, each with distinct mechanical properties. Modern self ligating brackets incorporate improved materials, refined clip mechanisms, and enhanced slot designs to optimize force delivery and patient comfort.Despite claims of superior performance, clinical evidence presents mixed outcomes. This article reviews the historical development, design innovations, and contemporary perspectives on selfligating brackets in orthodontics.
