The Regenerative Feedback Loop in Attention Capitalism: How the Restoration Industry Subsidizes Big Tech's Sustainability and Enables Double Monetization

Abstract

This paper presents a novel structural model of modern attention capitalism, challenging thetraditional binary framework that views algorithmic media platforms and cognitive restorationservices as opposing forces. Instead, we propose the Regenerative Feedback Loop Hypothesis,which posits that the attention-restoration industry—comprising B2B productivity software, digitaltherapeutics (DTx), mindfulness subscriptions, and OS-level wellness tools—unintentionallysubsidizes the long-term sustainability of Big Tech.If algorithmic extraction operates without restraint, the resulting collapse of executive function inthe general public leads to economic insolvency and the destruction of the consumer base ("thehost"). By rehabilitating the prefrontal cortex and restoring functional capacity, restorationplatforms continually replenish the consumer's economic productivity. This enables a mechanism ofDouble Monetization: platform monopolies profit first by selling ad space driven by algorithmicaddiction, and second by capturing fees and commissions when users purchase cognitive remedies.Ultimately, we argue that genuine cognitive liberation cannot be achieved through technologicalremedies within the market, but requires a shift toward Metacognitive Sovereignty and thepractice of costless, unassisted stillness.
