ENVIRONMENTAL ANOMALIES AND UNIDENTIFIED AUDIO PHENOMENA IN A RESIDENTIAL SETTING
Abstract
This research paper presents a case study of an anomalous residential environment investigated through environmental observations and overnight audio recording. The investigation was initiated after the resident reportedly experienced significant changes in financial circumstances, behaviour and family relationships following occupation and subsequent construction of a first-floor portion of the house. During a field visit, differences in temperature and humidity were observed between rooms on the first floor. An unusual smell was also reported, and repeated red indications were observed on a KMF meter in one room. Based on these observations, a voice recorder was placed in the selected room and operated approximately from midnight to 4:00 a.m. Six recordings (R1–R6) were subsequently examined for acoustic characteristics. The analysis considered changes in acoustic energy, frequency distribution, spectral centroid and pitch. R1 and R2 showed changes from relatively stable or low-energy conditions to increased and irregular acoustic activity. R3, R5 and R6 demonstrated transient increases in acoustic energy followed by reduction, while R4 showed variations in spectral centroid and pitch that warrant further examination as a possible speech-like acoustic event. The study does not claim that the recorded sounds are definitively paranormal or originate from a spirit or other entity. Instead, the recordings are classified as unidentified acoustic events and potential Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) candidates requiring further investigation. The paper proposes a controlled follow-up methodology involving repeated overnight recordings, independent recording devices, environmental sensors, video monitoring, control-room recordings, synchronized timestamps and blind listening by independent observers. The study aims to provide a systematic framework for distinguishing unexplained acoustic phenomena from conventional environmental, mechanical, electrical or recording-related sources. The research contributes a documented case study and a preliminary multi-recording framework for the investigation of anomalous audio phenomena in residential environments.
