Abstract

AbstractI watched the film On the Eve of War. Objective data clearly shows that a war with the United States would result in Japan’s catastrophic defeat. Japan’s ruling elite and the top leadership of the military fully understood this fact. The protagonist, unable to find a way to stop the outbreak of war, ends the film with a vacant expression amid the ruins where everything unfolded as predicted, having failed even to protect those he should have protected. This tragedy was created by a national character that reads the atmosphere and is swayed by it. That national character remains unchanged today. If it continues, tragedies—from everyday minor ones to historical catastrophes—will inevitably be repeated. This is not a prediction; it will certainly occur. Japan currently faces heightened international tensions and is confronted with dangerous situations both domestically and abroad. This paper presents a solution to prevent the outbreak of war. It is a solution to advance the Japanese people one step further.
