Cosmological Update Dynamics: The Role of Consciousness in the Structural Reality Update Cycle
Abstract
This paper extends the Cosmological Update Dynamics (CUD) framework by introducing the Structural Reality Update Cycle, a unified model describing reality as a continuous process of structural updating within the Onverse. Previous CUD studies established distinguishability generation, accumulated structure, structural fields, ψ-network representations, structural distance, historical continuity, future selectability, and the probabilistic framework of Reality Selection. The present work integrates these concepts into a single cyclic framework describing how an already realized ψ-network continuously evolves through successive structural updates. Rather than interpreting reality as a sequence of independently existing worlds, this paper proposes that reality is the continuous structural updating of a single evolving ψ-network. Within this framework, adjacent potential ψ-network configurations interact with the current realized ψ-network through weak structural connections prior to Reality Selection. A central contribution of this work is the functional reinterpretation of consciousness. Consciousness is not treated as the origin of Reality Selection but as a specialized mechanism that modulates weak structural connections with adjacent potential ψ-network configurations. Reality Selection itself remains a universal structural process operating throughout the Onverse, independently of the presence of consciousness. This work represents the first unified cyclic formulation of the current CUD framework, integrating previously developed concepts into a single structural model of continuous reality updating within the broader Onversology research program.
