Artificial Intelligence in Kannada Media and Communication
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming regional language media ecosystems in India, including Kannada media and communication. This article examines the growing integration of AI technologies across Kannada journalism, broadcasting, digital platforms, advertising, education, and public communication. With the expansion of digital news portals such as Prajavani, Kannada Prabha, Vijay Vani and Vijay Karnataka, AI-driven tools are increasingly used for automated news writing, speech recognition, real-time translation, audience analytics, and personalized content delivery. Broadcast media, including channels like TV9 Kannada, benefit from AI-powered transcription, subtitle generation, and content archiving systems that improve accessibility and efficiency. The article further explores AI applications in Kannada language technologies such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Text-to-Speech (TTS), and Natural Language Processing (NLP), which support digital preservation and wider dissemination of Kannada literature and information. In digital marketing and advertising, AI enables targeted communication tailored to Kannada speaking audiences, enhancing consumer engagement in urban centers like Bengaluru. Additionally, the study addresses ethical concerns including algorithmic bias, misinformation, job displacement, and data privacy challenges. By analyzing the opportunities and limitations of AI in Kannada media, this article argues that AI should function as a collaborative tool rather than a replacement for human creativity and editorial judgment. Responsible implementation, cultural sensitivity, and the development of high-quality Kannada language datasets are essential for sustainable growth. Ultimately, AI holds significant potential to strengthen regional communication while preserving linguistic and cultural identity in the digital age.
