ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND THE FUTURE OF THE GLOBAL ECONOMY: INSIGHTS FROM THE UNITED NATIONS AI FOR GOOD GLOBAL SUMMIT

Open access0 citations

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the most influential drivers of economic transformation in the twenty-first century, reshaping production systems, labor markets, international trade, and global governance. The rapid diffusion of AI technologies is creating unprecedented opportunities for productivity growth and innovation while simultaneously generating new economic, social, and regulatory challenges. This article examines the future of the global economy through the perspective of the United Nations AI for Good Global Summit, which has become one of the leading international platforms promoting the responsible and inclusive development of artificial intelligence. Rather than treating AI solely as a technological innovation, the article argues that it represents a structural force capable of redefining global economic governance, competitiveness, and sustainable development. The study analyzes AI's contribution to economic growth, the transformation of international competitiveness, and the emerging governance architecture designed to ensure that technological progress serves global public interests. It further discusses the principal risks associated with AI adoption, including labor market disruption, digital inequality, market concentration, and regulatory fragmentation. The article concludes that while artificial intelligence possesses enormous potential to stimulate global prosperity, its long-term contribution will depend on coordinated international governance, investment in human capital, and policies that balance innovation with inclusiveness and ethical responsibility.
