CoveLiab – Course Towards the Absolute Limit: An Innovative Educational Board Game for Scientific Learning, Strategic Thinking and Philosophical Exploration

Abstract

CoveLiab – Course Towards the Absolute Limit is an original educational and strategic board game created by Doumbia Amara in Côte d’Ivoire, Africa. The project combines game-based learning, scientific exploration, geometry, astronomy, strategic reasoning and philosophical reflection to create an interactive educational experience. Unlike traditional board games focused only on competition and entertainment, CoveLiab transforms scientific concepts into a concrete learning environment where players discover, experiment and develop their reasoning skills through play. The game is designed as a pedagogical tool that encourages curiosity, observation, analysis, anticipation, problem-solving and decision-making. In CoveLiab, players become asteroid explorers travelling through a symbolic representation of the solar system. Their mission is to progress toward a unique destination called the “Absolute Limit” by managing resources, understanding trajectories and adapting their strategies. The game introduces a progressive transition from a rectilinear trajectory to a curvilinear trajectory, allowing players to explore concepts related to geometric transformation, movement, spatial relationships, convergence and scientific modelling. The educational approach of CoveLiab is based on learning through experience. By interacting with the game board, players can better understand abstract ideas through visual representation, experimentation and strategic choices. The game supports the development of several cognitive abilities, including spatial reasoning, logical thinking, planning, resource management, creativity and scientific awareness. CoveLiab has been designed as a potential educational resource for schools, science clubs, educational workshops, cultural institutions and organizations interested in promoting science education through innovative methods. It creates a connection between entertainment and knowledge by showing that board games can become effective tools for learning, discovery and intellectual development.
