CAA-X V3: Intention is All You Need — A Manifesto for Goal-Driven AI
Abstract
This repository contains V3 of the CAA-X (Cognitive Atom Architecture eXtension) research program, subtitled "Intention is All You Need: A Manifesto for Goal-Driven AI." V3 marks a deliberate paradigm shift from the engineering-focused V0–V2 trilogy toward a foundational critique of contemporary generative AI. It argues that the pathologies of large language models — hallucination, sycophancy, shallow reasoning, and the "illusion of thinking" — are not bugs to be patched, but structural consequences of a missing architectural layer: intentionality. Core ThesisCurrent AI systems operate as sophisticated next-token predictors without intrinsic goals. V3 formalizes intention not as a post-hoc prompt-engineering trick, but as a continuous vector field that constrains, directs, and gives meaning to the entire generative process. Drawing on predictive processing, active inference, and the CAA-X λ-order-parameter framework, V3 demonstrates that "intention" is the minimal necessary condition for general intelligence — hence the deliberate provocation in the title. Key Contributions- Pathology Diagnosis: Systematic analysis of "improvisational blabbering" (Cola DLM, ELF, Apple's The Illusion of Thinking) as evidence of intention-deficit disorder in LLMs.- Mathematical Formalization: The Intention Field equation — a continuous vector field I(x,t) that modulates the predictive tension field Φ(x,t), replacing discrete token sampling with goal-directed trajectory optimization.- Discrete-to-Continuous Transition: Proof that token-space generation is a degenerate case of continuous intention-field dynamics; formal bridge between symbolic planning and neural generation.- Multimodal Intention Alignment: Specification of a unified intention language across text, vision, and action modalities, enabled by the GWP (Generalized World-Perception) protocol.- Philosophical Positioning: Explicit engagement with Searle's Chinese Room, Block's Chinese Nation, and contemporary critiques of "stochastic parrots" — reframed through the lens of dynamical systems and functional intentionality. Relationship to V0–V2V0 established the mathematical apparatus (cognitive atoms, λ-order-parameters). V1 provided the engineering blueprint (GWP protocol, CML 2.0). V2 grounded the framework in cognitive physicalism (predictive tension fields, cognitive manifolds). V3 deploys all three to answer the question: What is missing?
