Low-grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasm: A Rare Case Presentation

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasms (LAMNs) are rare appendiceal tumors characterized by mucin production and low-grade cytologic atypia. Although benign in nature, they have malignant potential if the mucinous epithelium breaches the appendiceal wall, leading to pseudomyxoma peritonei. We report the case of a 34-year-old male who presented with abdominal pain and was diagnosed with LAMN on histopathological examination after appendectomy. The patient recovered uneventfully and remains disease-free at follow-up. This case underscores the importance of timely diagnosis and complete surgical excision to prevent complications associated with mucinous neoplasms of the appendix.
