Anticipating Sacrifice: A Structural Analysis of Character Arcs and Narrative Fatality Leading to the Conclusion of the Horizon Trilogy
Abstract
Facing the imminent conclusion of the Horizon trilogy (Guerrilla Games), this paper proposes an analytical and anticipatory examination of fatality dynamics within the franchise. By delimiting the primary corpus to the mainline games and their canonical expansion, and relying on narrative morphology, transmedia development, and market viability, this study examines how the saga employs the sacrifice trope. It concludes that Sylens stands as the primary candidate for structural demise through a contingency plan against the threat of Nemesis, whereas the preservation of Aloy and Beta remains fundamental for the future expansion of the ludic universe and game design architecture.
