APF Paper 1 — The Enforceability of Distinction

Open access0 citations

Abstract

Paper 1 of the Admissibility Physics Framework (APF), The Enforceability of Distinction. The opening technical paper of the series. A finite-dimensional complex Hilbert space ℋ with Born's rule, and a noncommutative operator *-algebra 𝒜, emerge from four structurally independent variational components. Nothing quantum is assumed; the formalism is derived. The central result. The Principle of Least Enforcement Cost — A1 (finite enforcement capacity), MD (minimum distinction, positive per-test cost floor), A2 (argmin selection, variational realisation), BW (budget-window non-degeneracy) — gives a finite-dimensional substrate. Sector decomposition follows from the irreducibility lemma Lirr. A noncommutative *-algebra 𝒜 ≅ ⨁i Mni(𝔽) follows from Wedderburn–Artin. The GNS construction gives a Hilbert space ℋ with faithful state ω. The field is fixed to ℂ by two structural closures: state-separation completeness (T2c.1, ruling out 𝔽 = ℝ) and composition closure (T2c.2, ruling out 𝔽 = ℍ). Consequences. Born's rule Pr(k | ρ) = Tr(Pk ρ), the Tsirelson bound, no-broadcasting, and monogamy of entanglement arise as corollaries — using external theorems (Busch 2003, Cirel'son 1980, Barnum–Caves–Fuchs–Jozsa–Schumacher 1996) applied to the structurally derived scaffolding. Why this matters for the series. Paper 1 is the load-bearing foundation. Every quantum-theoretic object used downstream — Hilbert space structure, linearity, tensor products, Born's rule, CPTP evolution, measurement — rests on this paper's derivation. Paper 5 (Quantum Structure) inherits and extends it. Paper 6 (Dynamics and Geometry) uses the same operator scaffolding for spacetime. Paper 8 (Admissibility-Capacity Ledger) reads it through the πQ quantum projection. Proof depth. The main paper presents theorems with sketches of ≤20 lines. Full formal derivations, countermodels, and red-team analysis live in the Technical Supplement (see isSupplementedBy link below). Code and reproducibility. Every theorem traces to a named check function in the bundled apf/ package. GitHub repository Colab walkthrough notebook (one-click) Interactive dependency DAG About the APF series. The Admissibility Physics Framework derives Standard Model and cosmological structure from a single primitive — finite enforcement capacity — through a chain of papers plus a machine-verifiable engine. Each paper has a main text and, where applicable, a Technical Supplement, deposited on Zenodo and collected in the admissibility_physics community; the canonical engine (APF-Engine v24.3.427, 3,918 bank-registered checks) backs every quantitative claim.
