Discovery of antibacterial and antifungal peptides in the pig microbiome

Abstract

Novel antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) needed to combat bacterial and fungal diseases as well as emerging antibacterial and antifungal drug resistance. Characterization of the structural and functional features of the pig gut microbiota improves our understanding of small open reading frames (smORFs) and facilitates the mining of antibacterial and antifungal peptides.
