Can We Forget Love? The Neurobiology of Why Love is the Last Thing We Forget

Abstract

This essay focuses on a beautiful and emotional paradox of Alzheimer’s disease: why we don't forget love even when we forget everything else. While the disease destroys the hippocampus and erases names, dates, and memories, the amygdala stays safe and keeps our emotions alive. By looking at famous neuroscience studies and hormones like oxytocin, I wanted to show that our brains protect our feelings long after our facts are gone. It’s a simple reminder that humans are not just computers made of data, and love is always the last leaf to fall.
