Viability as a Measure of the Maturity of Knowledge: Toward a Viability-Oriented Theory of Knowledge
Abstract
This paper proposes a viability-oriented epistemological perspective as a philosophical and methodological extension of classical theories of knowledge. Rather than replacing traditional epistemology, the proposed framework introduces viability as an additional criterion for evaluating the maturity of knowledge through its long-term consequences for the preservation, regeneration, adaptation, and development of systems. The paper argues that knowledge acquires greater epistemological maturity when it contributes to the sustainable viability of biological, cognitive, technological, social, artificial intelligence, and other complex systems. The proposed approach integrates the conceptual triad Meaning–State–Action with the principles of Harmony, feedback, regeneration, adaptation, and Synchroauthenticity while preserving the distinction between empirical scientific inquiry and philosophical reflection. The article does not prescribe ethical doctrines or metaphysical conclusions. Instead, it offers an open philosophical and methodological framework that supports interdisciplinary dialogue concerning the long-term systemic consequences of the development and application of knowledge across diverse domains of science, technology, artificial intelligence, and future forms of organization and life.
