Reversing Metabolic Shutdown: A Unified Bioelectric Model of Type 2 Diabetes and Hypothyroidism

Abstract

ABSTRACT Modern clinical pharmacology treats Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and Hypothyroidism as isolated chemical/endocrine signaling defects —framing T2DM as insulin receptor binding insensitivity and hypothyroidism as a glandular thyroid hormone deficit. This paper proposes a unified bioelectric framework: both conditions represent a single systemic emergency state driven by a breakdown in cellular resting membrane potential (Vm ) and mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm ). Chronic physical and emotional stress induces sustained sympathetic action potential firing, driving continuous cellular depolarization and excessive urinary/sweat wasting of crucial electrolytes (Na+ , K+ , Mg2+) and trace mineral hardware (Cu, Fe, Zn, Mn, S, Se, I). Without these ionic and metallic cofactors, the Na+ /K+ -ATPase pump fails and the mitochondrial Electron Transport Chain (ETC) stalls, locking cells in a depolarized, energy-depleted state. We further demonstrate how nutrient-dense whole foods (millets, organ meats, dried fish, tubers, greens, spices) combined with ancient parasympathetic recalibration practices (Pranayama, Yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi) downregulate sympathetic action potential frequency, suppress hyper-cortisolemia, restore cellular charge, and spontaneously reverse metabolic dysfunction.
