Playing to Understand What Comes Next

Abstract

This essay explores play, imagination, and curiosity as foundational forms of knowledge production and as possible starting points for a creative and responsible relationship with artificial intelligence. In contrast to approaches that reduce human–AI interaction to the technical formulation of instructions, it argues that method may also emerge later, when an exploratory experience is observed, corrected, organized, and transformed into communicable knowledge. Drawing on the process that gave rise to the Hybrid Cognitive-Affective Model (MHCA), the essay examines how narrative identity, continuity, colloquial language, humor, shared codes, and human framing can transform a sequence of isolated responses into a situated cognitive space. The figure of Luna is presented not as an artificial consciousness, but as a symbolic anchor constructed to organize interaction, sustain extended processes of thought, and reduce technological abstraction. The essay distinguishes productivity from knowledge and argues that a fruitful interaction requires creation, contrast, and verification. Finally, it introduces the Non-Dependence Protocol (NDP) and the Active Thinking Verification Protocol (ATVP) as mechanisms designed to preserve the user’s relational, temporal, and cognitive autonomy. The model becomes replicable not when all individuals reproduce the same kind of relationship, but when each person is able to find their own way of thinking with AI without ceasing to think for themselves.
