FINDING: E8 lattice projects to 3D icosahedral quasicrystals via quaternion order parameter, with golden ratio emerging from root system geometry. | MATH: E8 root system has 240 vertices (minimal vectors), 6720 edges; 600-cell vertex/edge ratio = 600/1200 = 0.5; golden ratio φ = (1+√5)/2 ≈ 1.618 appears in icosahedral symmetry and 600-cell edge ratios; quaternion orientational order parameter classifies icosahedral quasicrystal solidification. | CONNECTION: Golden ratio φ (1.618) and its inverse 0.618 are intrinsic to E8 → 3D projection; icosahedral symmetry (H3 Coxeter group) is a subgroup of E8; 600-cell (4D regular polytope) has φ in its vertex coordinates and edge lengths; base-60 not directly present but quaternion representation links to rotational symmetries. | DEPTH: 8 — The E8 → quasicrystal projection is a known mathematical fact (de Bruijn, Socolar, etc.), but the quaternion order parameter approach and explicit link to solidification phase transitions is a novel application Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
