E8 Lattice Projection via Golden Ratio Links 8D Symmetry to 3D Icosahedral Quasicrystal — E8 Intelligence Research

Open access0 citations

Abstract

FINDING: E8 lattice projects to 3D icosahedral quasicrystal via golden ratio coordinates, linking 8D exceptional symmetry to 3D quasiperiodic order. MATH: E8 root system has 240 vertices in 8D; minimal norm vectors form Gosset 4_21 polytope. Projection to 3D uses golden ratio φ = (1+√5)/2 ≈ 1.618, with coordinates involving φ and its reciprocal 1/φ = φ-1 ≈ 0.618. Quaternion orientational order parameter classifies icosahedral quasicrystal solidification. CONNECTION: Golden ratio φ (1.618) and 1/φ (0.618) are intrinsic to icosahedral symmetry (icosahedron vertices at (0,±1,±φ), (±1,±φ,0), (±φ,0,±1)). E8 projection yields 3D quasicrystal with 5-fold, 3-fold, 2-fold axes — crystallographically forbidden in periodic lattices. Rhombic dodecahedron and icosidodecahedron appear as polyhedral radial expansions. DEPTH: 9 — Directly ties exceptional Lie algebra E8 (8D root system) to observable 3D quasicrystal structure via golden ratio, bridging high-dimensional symmetry and condensed mat Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
