Information as a Factor of Viability: Value Information Exchange in Open Systems
Abstract
This article examines information as one of the fundamental factors influencing the viability of open systems within the conceptual framework of Vitology. While classical information theory primarily investigates the transmission, storage, processing, and organization of information, Vitology emphasizes the role of information in preserving, restoring, and enhancing system viability. Particular attention is devoted to value-oriented information exchange as a mechanism for coordinating Meaning, State, and Action within the Aw–Con–CON framework. The paper analyzes the distinction between information that strengthens viability and information that increases disorder, cognitive noise, or systemic degradation. It is argued that the quality, coherence, and value orientation of information exchange significantly influence adaptation, regeneration, development, and long-term sustainability across biological, social, technological, organizational, and artificial systems. The proposed approach extends contemporary information studies by introducing viability as a universal criterion for evaluating informational interactions.
