The Practitioner's Guide to HPC Networks
Abstract
Students and professionals beginning their HPC career require introduction to many new concepts and technologies to make use of clusters and efficiently write software for those platforms, and instructors need resources to effectively convey these ideas. Many resources provide a wealth of information on individual concepts, but present the information without the context of the larger system into which it fits. This paper was designed to be a holistic, cross-layer resource surveying foundational concepts of networking software and hardware on HPC clusters, culminating in an illustrative example using a real-world implementation.
