Track Switching:Hierarchical Reclassification of Six Physical Problems

Abstract

Physics achieved brilliant successes in the twentieth century, but also left behind a set of extremely stubborn unsolved problems. These problems share a common feature: they have been repeatedly posed, repeatedly attempted, and repeatedly failed within physics itself, with no breakthrough to date. This paper proposes a different direction of operation: not attempting to "solve" these problems, but reclassifying them—asking whether they are truly "problems" at all, or whether they are illusions produced by our misclassification. Using "hierarchical reclassification" as its methodology, this paper reclassifies six physical problems one by one: Quantum gravity—not "requiring unification," but "different levels do not require unification"; Vacuum energy—not "failed prediction," but "category error in cross-level comparison"; Dark matter—possibly not "matter," but "cross-level gravitational effect"; Quantum measurement—not "observer problem," but "transition from unlocked to locked"; Hubble tension—not "model error," but "intrinsic deviation across different levels of measurement"; Arrow of time—not "initial condition," but "irreversibility of relational superposition." This paper does not provide "solutions." It provides "directions for track switching"—taking each problem off the track it has been on, placing it on a more appropriate level, and then asking the question anew.
