Abstract

Pharmaceutical waste management is an important part of the healthcare system that helps protect human health and the environment. The pharmaceutical industry produces different types of waste, such as expired, unused, contaminated medicines, and packaging materials. If these wastes are not disposed of properly, they can pollute water, soil, and the environment, causing serious health risks. Effective pharmaceutical waste management includes proper identification, segregation, storage, and safe disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Healthcare facilities should provide staff training and follow standard guidelines issued by organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In addition, promoting safe medicine disposal, medicine take-back programs, recycling, and the use of advanced disposal technologies can help reduce environmental pollution and support sustainable healthcare practices.
