Review finds reinforced staplers linked to fewer pancreatic leaks after surgery

Researchers combined results from 20 randomized trials involving 2,868 patients who had distal pancreatectomy, an operation that removes part of the pancreas. Reinforced staplers were associated with fewer clinically important pancreatic fistulas than suture-based closure, while patch techniques were associated with fewer abdominal fluid collections.
