Synergistic Surface/Bulk Charge Modulation Enables Record-Level Photocurrent in Hematite Photoanodes without Co-Catalysts for Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting

Abstract Hematite (α-Fe2O3) photoanodes are limited by poor bulk conductivity and severe surface recombination, which hinder their photoelectrochemical (PEC) water-splitting activity. We demonstrate that a simple, rapid microwave-sintering (RMS) route simultaneously incorporates...

Boosting the Solar Water-Splitting Performance of a CuO Photocathode via Synergetic Interfacial Hole Extraction and Surface Electron Collection

Abstract P-type cupric oxide (CuO) is a promising photocathode material for solar hydrogen production, whereas its practical application is severely limited by constrained photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance and poor photostability. Herein, an integrated NiO/CuO/CuS photocatho...

Engineered Charge Separation and Utilization in Oxygen-Vacancy-Mediated S-scheme Heterojunction for Enhanced Photoredox Catalysis

Abstract Defect-mediated S-scheme heterojunction engineering offers a compelling strategy for advancing photocatalytic solar energy conversion. Herein, an S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst is designed by coupling one-dimensional oxygen-vacancy-rich K2Ti8O17–x nanowires to two...
